Synopsis
Ember Harris has sworn to save lives. Joseph King is an assassin. Death is their common ground, only they stand on opposing sides. Thrown together they find that in life, like death, everyone needs a Guardian.
A dead man’s plea pushes Ember headfirst into a swirling mire of drugs, death and political corruption. Chased by a murderous drug cartel, she runs straight into the arms Joseph King, a former Navy Seal turned assassin.
Protecting Em is Joseph King’s last mission and this time he’ll risk anything, including his life, to keep her safe. As a matter of fact he’d stroll through the sin-stoked fires of hell and gut the devil himself.
BOOK REVIEW
Ember is a trauma unit doctor who is at the end of her contract term at the hospital in New Orleans where she worked. in two days she's planned to take a well deserved break and go travelling around the US for a year. She arranged to meet a friend for dinner and drinks at a restaurant. When she arrives, her friend Dale gives her a thumb drive and tells her to take it with her out of the state and if anything happens to him, to give it to someone influential on a national level. Ember is really worried for her friend especially when he creates a scene designed to make it seem as if they're breaking up.
Things take a turn for the worse when Dale is found dead the next day by apparent suicide. Ember knows he didn't kill himself. dale was murdered. She knows she's now in deep trouble and could be the next person to die. So she calls the only person whom she knows she can count on, Joseph.
Joseph is just back from a mission that nearly claimed his life. He is an overseas operative for Guardians, which is a firm of security specialists made up of members of the same family. He is basically just back in the US when he gets the call from Ember. He is still injured from the torture he had to endure but knows he has to help Ember. She is the woman who has his heart after all, even if he can never have a normal life like everyone else. Can he keep her safe from the drug cartel and is there a future for both of them?
I really enjoyed this book. The first chapter really hooked me. The action and suspense is at the level that I enjoy and the romance is sizzling hot, exactly the way I like it. Ember and Joseph are loveable characters. I loved that Joseph dropped everything to go to her rescue and I loved that Ember wasn't whining about her situation. She did what she had to do to survive. The only niggle I had was that this was word heavy in places which slowed down the pace and I ended up skimming to get to the good bits. Overall, still a great read for fans of romantic suspense or military romance.

JACOB (Kings of Guardian Book 1)
SYNOPSIS
Jacob King found little physically attractive about the woman he saved from the warlord’s camp, though it was hard to see what lay under the filth and suppurating wounds she suffered from countless beatings. He admired her brave humor in the face of her agonizing injuries. This kind of tough-minded woman was someone he'd like to know as a friend. He never expected the leggy, blond bomb-shell in the red dress who showed up for their date.
But then he never expected she would save his life, either. In a world of shadows, smoke, and dangerous covert missions, where people routinely vanish and living one more day was never a given, Tori and Jacob fight to build their happily ever after.
