Maya's Review
Oh, I love books with sexy, tortured heroes and this story delivers it in truckloads.
A long time ago, Simon once loved a woman but he returns from war to find that she is already married to another man. Driven by jealousy, rage and with the help of a mischievous witch, she seeks revenge.
Unfortunately, this means he is now cursed to live as a bear during the day and as a man at night. He lives in isolation without human contact, slowly losing his own humanity. In moments of despair he seeks to take his own life. Alas, he cannot die. This is his punishment, his penance.
But then, love and happiness comes calling in the form of Maggie. Does he deserve it? Will he embrace it?
You know the saying "be careful what you wish for" is so relevant here. Sometimes we get so angry and want to lash out without thinking of the devastating consequence of our actions. And when we have calmed down we realise we are better off moving on rather than seeking to hurt others.
I really connect with Simon pain and despair as a character. The author really allows us to delve into it and live in it for a while. And when Maggie turned up I really wanted him to be happy, to finally get the absolution he needed and let go of his past.
This naughty fairy tale satisfied the emotional as well as the erotic side of me. Easy to recommend.
