I really enjoyed this one. The premise of the story (a prince with magical powers who was also submissive and needed a master to balance his power) got my attention and made me excited to read it. On the whole it delivered. I got into the story very easily and didn't want to put the book down until I finished it.

Chalice is very likeable as  prince who feels out of place in his father's palace and leaves in search of a master who will help him control his magical powers. I thought having his dead mother deliver words of wisdom to him on a daily basis via her journal was a touch of genius.

Emperor Terrin was so imperious he reminded me of an Arabian Sheikh. LOL. The minute he spots Chalice, he wants him as pet. But the cold, hard Emperor is soon falling for Chalice and turns out not to be as bad as I was expecting.

The dynamic between Chalice and Terrin worked well and I enjoyed their interactions. But there were moments that felt brushed over and I wished for more descriptions. Also, some of the scene transitions felt choppy as if section were cut off and the change not smoothed over.

Overall, this is a great story and a lovely start to the series. In terms of eroticism this is more sensual than explicit, but that's okay too. I really connected with the characters and I want to find out what happens to Zall, especially.

Happy to recommend this to fans of MM Romance who also enjoy a sprinkle of BDSM.
