This is one book I've been waiting to read ever since I read excerpts on the authors blog before it was released. I bought a copy as soon as it came out and finally sat down to read it in bed this morning.
Ren. Ren. Ren. You haven't met a bad boy or should I say 'bad man' until you've met Ren. Here comes the warning. This book is about real bad men. Not the pretend ones you get in a some novels labelled 'bad boy romance.' These ones actually do bad things with no remorse. Trust me, you don't want to meet any of these men in a dark alley.
Unfortunately this is how Susie met Ren, in a very dark alley as he killed two men and incapacitated a woman. And because she'd seen too much and also because his boss had to reward him for a job well done, Susie became Ren's prize.
Okay. There are some things he did to her that I just had to skip over because they left a bad taste in my mouth. I'm not a fan of humiliation in any form especially when it's not the person's kink. And of course when he pulled the stunt in the kitchen I wanted to shoot him in the balls.
So true. Ren is difficult to love. But that's his appeal. Because you know when he falls he's going to fall hard. And boy did he fall. Of course I didn't expect him to suddenly turn mushy and start buying her flowers or being romantic. Leopard just don't change their spots.
But he did one thing which made me fall in love with him in the end. They say if you love someone you have to set them free. Well, that was enough proof to me that he loved Susie. And in that moment I fell in love with him.
Admittedly, this book is not for everyone. If you want heroes who 'reform' because the person they love 'saves' or makes them change, this not the book. There is no reformation. These are anti-heroes. Seriously. If you don't have the stomach for it, save yourself. Walk on by.
On the other hand, if you enjoy taking a walk on the dark side with a good dose of kink, then this is exactly for you. The erotic scenes will have you reaching for a fan and the suspense will keep you biting your nails. And the ending will have you sighing with pleasure.
I, for one, cannot wait for the next book. Please tell me it's Ty's story. Fab start to the series.
