Loved it #BookReview Triad Blood by @NathanBurgoine #Gayfic #Paranormal

The law of three is unbroken: three vampires form a coterie, three demons make a pack, and three wizards are a coven. That is how it has always been, and how it was always to be.

But Luc, Anders, and Curtis—vampire, demon, and wizard—have cheated tradition. Their bond is not coterie, pack, or coven, but something else. Thrust into the supernatural politics ruling Ottawa from behind the shadows, they face Renard, a powerful vampire who harbors deadly secrets of his own and wishes to end their threat. The enemy they know conjures fire and death at every turn. The enemies they don’t know are worse.

Blood, soul, and magic gave them freedom. Now they need to survive it.

This book is simply one of the best books I've read this year. In fact I think it's at the top of the my favourite's list. I know this is tagged as a gay romance. But it's actually a gay paranormal suspense with a hint of romance. And I loved it from beginning to end.

For starters, I loved the main characters. Anders, the brawny demon. Curtis, the geeky wizard. And of course, Luc, the sophisticated vampire. Their unique group was fabulous but each character brought his own strength to the group which made their dynamic great.

In the tradition, groups are formed from the power of three. So three vampires make a coterie. Three demons make a pack and three wizards make a coven. Individuals who live on their own and don't belong to a group are looked down upon and bullied/abused by the other groups.

Curtis, Anders and Luc were in hiding and trying to survive individually until Curtis suggests that they bond together to make a triad so they are not lonely anymore. So when they do bond together, they become stronger as a group. But there are plenty of people who do not like this unique group and want them to break up. Most of all in the Duke of Ottawa, a vampire known as Renard. When bad things start happening to them like burning cars and letter bombs, they decide to do something about it.

I love how this story unfolded as the mystery around the history of the otherwordly creatures and magic was unravelled. I loved seeing the main characters interact. I have to admit I loved Anders's humour. He made me laugh out loud several times. He was the perfect counterfoil for Luc. Curtis can be described as the heart of the group and he holds them together. He's the big softie and compassionate. Of course it could be because he's the only human and the only one with a soul. His compassion rubs off on the others.

As I mentioned earlier, I love this story. Every word and every scene moved the story forward. Nothing was wasted. I didn't skim a letter. I savoured every phrase, every sentence. I hope there's more coming from this triad. For one, I'd actually like to see romance blossom between the three of them. And what happens now, especially when it comes to the dreaded Families. And what's with the vampire in the basement. I really can't wait for more.
