Hello, readers. Today we have former soldier and bodyguard Gavin Bennett from Guarding Midnight in the hot seat. Thank you to Kacey Hammell for cajoling him into doing the interview. ;)
1.
What do you consider your
greatest achievement?
Fighting in the
front lines in Afghanistan. Fighting for peace.
2.
What is your idea of perfect
happiness?
Sharing the quiet
moments with Shree, just the two of us, talking and maybe some canoodling.
*chuckles* Just being together.
3.
What is your current state of
mind?
Happy. Content.
At peace.
4.
What is your most treasured
possession?
My darling Shree,
though she’d smack me upside the head for thinking of her as a possession. But
she is my everything. I also love the friendships I’ve made, the family I
adore. Those are my most treasured moments of my life.
5.
What or who is the greatest
love of your life?
Two things –
fighting for my country. And Shree.
6.
What is your most marked characteristic?
Probably the
tattoo on my back. The men in my troop gave me the idea. Their Guardian so they
said, and it represents (from them) how much they trust me and believed in me.
For me, it reminds me of those that we lost in Afghanistan, but also reminds me
that I’ve made a difference for others.
7.
When and where were you the
happiest?
These days, with
my beautiful lady, and when good friends are around. The club is thriving,
Shree is excelling in her nursing residency, and I’ve started a new security
firm. Life is pretty great.
8.
What is it that you most
dislike?
Those who prey on
the innocent or the weaker gender. People who prey on others are snakes in the
grass with no moral compass to lead them to peace. These individuals are lost
and shouldn’t be allowed to walk the streets anywhere.
9.
What is your greatest fear?
Seeing the world
around us crumble completely because of racism, war, famine, or hate crimes.
We’re all one people, one nation, I wish it was easier for everyone to live
harmoniously and in peace. *grins* I
know, that’s pretty deep for a guy to say, right? But it’s the truth.
10.
What is your greatest
extravagance?
Jesus, that’s a
hard one. Well, I guess the extensive wardrobe I seem to have. I own a lot of
clothes, some I probably don’t wear twice, but a man needs a lot of tshirts.
*chuckles*
11.
What is your greatest regret?
Not being able to
rescue everyone in Afghanistan that my unit was sent over to protect. War is
ugly and not everyone can be saved. I hate that I wasn’t able to save them all.
12.
What is the quality you most
like in a woman?
Confidence. I
love a woman who can own a room when she walks into it – or stage she dances on
*grins* -- and knowing that she can take care of herself. I love a woman who
takes charge and doesn’t back down when I might be an ass. Which rarely
happens, but you know, I’m only human. *smiles*
13.
What is the trait you most
deplore in yourself?
My judgmental
side. I am sometimes quick to judge others. I’d like to think I read people
well, but sometimes I make mistakes and snap judgments happen. But I’d like to
think I’ve improved on that trait, I try to think before I rush into anything,
but even a tough guy falters.
14.
What is the trait you most
deplore in others?
Cruelty.
No one deserves
to feel superior or unwanted. People who are different than others don’t
deserve ridicules or prejudices for the way they live their lives. Again,
everyone should be treated equally. No one deserves to live in pain.
15.
What do you most value in your
friends?
Honesty.
Dependability. Compassion.
16.
Who is your favorite hero,
fictional or real?
John Wayne was
pretty kick ass in his day. I’m a huge fan. Also love some good old Charles
Bronson too.
In real life, the
men and women who fight for their countries, and strive to make a difference
are true heroes.
17.
On what occasions do you lie?
Only lies of
omission. If it keeps a loved one safe. If they’re in danger and the situation
calls for me down-playing everything – just lies of omission.
18.
Which is your favorite word or
phrase?
Son of a bitch.
Sorry for the bad language, but you did ask. *smiles* It’s something Shree
tells me I say too often.
19.
What is your least favorite
word or phrase?
Anything
derogatory or harmful to others.
20.
If you could change one thing
about yourself, what would it be?
I’d like to be a
stronger man with greater influence to change so much of the hatred in this
country, and around the world.
After doing this interview, I think I'm a little in love with Gavin. Aren't you, readers? Want to find out more about this yummy hero? Check out Guarding Midnight. The cover is just swoonworthy!!!

When Desires
Need Protecting.
No
one knows sacrifice better than former Army Sergeant Gavin Bennett. He’s
witnessed firsthand the emotional, physical and mental toll of being caught in
the crossfire. Being a bouncer-slash-bodyguard may not be Gavin’s dream job,
but he’s willing to do just about anything to help out family. When Gavin
reports for his first day of work, he quickly discovers a woman who threatens
to crack his legendary cool.
Shree
Walker is on the run from a dark past she tried to shut away. Battered and
broken, a happily ever after doesn’t exist for her. Ready to start fresh with a
new life in a new city, she is happy dancing at the Vixen Club. She’d be even
happier without the presence of the prickly new bouncer who won’t let anyone or
anything get past his carefully guarded defenses. He’s a distraction she
doesn’t need. And a temptation she can’t resist.
When
Shree is kidnapped by the criminal mastermind hell-bent on taking the club at
any cost, Gavin has to make a decision. Hold tight and continue to keep Shree
at arm’s length. Or break down his walls and take a chance on something more powerful
than them both: Love.
