When you read the blurb to this story and understand the premise on which it is based, you can't help but want to read it. When you pick it up and read the first few chapters, you become definitely hooked.
The author sets up the story so well from the start. Allie watched her mother being raped as a child and is now bent on revenge. She will kill the man who hurt her family. This is why she needs the job with Cross Enterprises. Tristan's friend is currently being held by sex traffickers and he needs Allie to go undercover and help to free her. The two of them need each other. That's the hook.
This story started so well. hit my expectations. Allie is billed as a strong female character bent on avenging the wrong done to her family and I really rooted for her to do what needed to be done. But what does she do? She gives up as soon as Tristan turns up. Really? She had no problem with him whisking her mother off without her knowledge. This is the same woman Allie kept practically locked up day on day and moved house as frequently. It just felt as if the author told us the character was one thing and then showed us a different character altogether. I couldn't quite match the two Allies. I really wished that she was a stronger character than was portrayed. It would've have added a whole better level to this book.
Having said that, the chemistry between Tristan and Allie sizzled throughout. The love scenes are hot. Tristan is the knight in shiny suit and family-orientated, the perfect man it seems. I knew this was the first part of a series so I saw the cliff hanger coming.
I like Tristan and Allie and I want them to have a happy ending so I look forward to reading the next book in the series.
